Hey there,

On my first trip to Paris, I thought staying near the Eiffel Tower would be the ultimate dream. I mean, who doesn’t want to wake up and see it sparkle at night?

But here’s the truth… it wasn’t what I expected.

The area right around the tower is packed with tourist traps, overpriced cafés, and not much local charm.

It felt more like a box I’d ticked than the Paris I imagined.

The next time I visited, I stayed in Le Marais and suddenly Paris came alive. Trendy cafés, winding streets, little boutiques, and that artsy, authentic vibe.

From there, I was hooked on exploring different neighbourhoods.

Here are my top picks:

1️⃣ Le Marais (3rd & 4th arrondissements) – cool cafés, vintage shops, and that “local Paris” feel
2️⃣ Saint-Germain (6th arrondissement) – romantic, walkable, and perfect for first-timers
3️⃣ Latin Quarter (5th arrondissement) – historic, lively, and full of charm

👉 Read my full guide on the best (and worst) places to stay in Paris with my top hotel recommendations for every budget.

If you’re planning a trip, my tip is simple: don’t pay extra just to be close to the Eiffel Tower.

Paris is so much more magical when you stay in a neighbourhood with character and you can always hop on the metro or take a short walk to see the tower sparkle.

Jasmin
